HISTORY:

In the late 18th and early 19th centuries, Richard Poulden was a well-known silversmith in London. He was born in 1766, the son of a watchmaker named John Poulden. Richard started his career as an apprentice to goldsmith Thomas Pitts before opening his own business in London's East End.

Poulden swiftly established a reputation for high-quality silverware and was commissioned by a number of important clientele, including members of the British royal family. His designs were recognised for their beauty and simplicity, with classical themes and delicate scrollwork often included.

The silver candelabrum he fashioned for King George III is one of Poulden's most renowned masterpieces. This beautiful item was made from over 400 ounces of silver and had extensive craftsmanship such as four elegant candle arms and a centre column covered with flower and fruit garlands.

Poulden was especially well-known for his tea service, which was highly sought after by collectors. His designs were often inspired by the fashionable neo-classical style during his lifetime, and he was especially good at producing items with clean lines and elegant curves.
