Alexander the Great (356 BC – 323 BC) was one of history’s most legendary military leaders and empire builders. Born in Pella, the ancient capital of Macedonia, he was tutored by the philosopher Aristotle and became king at the age of 20 after the assassination of his father, King Philip II.

In just over a decade, Alexander created one of the largest empires the world had ever seen — stretching from Greece to Egypt and as far east as India. He never lost a battle, and his tactics are still studied in military academies today.

Alexander saw himself as a unifier of East and West, founding more than 20 cities (including Alexandria in Egypt) and spreading Hellenistic culture, which blended Greek, Persian, Egyptian, and Indian influences. He died in Babylon at just 32 years old under mysterious circumstances, but his legacy as a visionary leader, cultural ambassador, and warrior-king endures to this day.
