  • The first Patek Philippe Calatrava wristwatch, the Reference 96, was released in 1932.

Henri Stern, whose father was a dial maker, came up with the initial design for the watch not long after the purchase of Patek Philippe by his family in 1932.
Calatrava was brought into the firm to help it weather the Great Depression.

After 40 years on the market, the original Calatrava Ref. 96 was succeeded by Ref. 2526, Ref. 3520, Ref. 5196, and so on.

First released in 1985, the Ref. 3919 with its guilloché "Clous de Paris" bezel quickly became the best-selling timepiece in the whole Calatrava collection.
