Engine-turning is a decorative technique where intricate, repeating patterns are engraved or etched onto the surface using a mechanical lathe or engine. This technique, also known as “guilloché,” creates beautiful geometric designs, typically seen in jewellery, watches, and antiques.

The process involves using a rotating lathe that moves precisely, ensuring that the design is consistent and symmetrical. The patterns can range from simple lines and curves to more complex motifs, adding texture and visual interest to the piece.
